I’m sitting here listening to a conversation across the aisle from me between two guys: one’s a climate change denialist.
No matter what my colleague across the way says to him, the evidence he states, shows him on his PC (studies, etc.) seem to have any effect of the other guy.
Well, it’s been pretty interesting to listen to and it’s amazing how calm and temperate my colleague has been during this “debate”. So, while sitting here, I sent an email with the following quote:
“Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence” – Carl Sagan.
I heard a chuckle from my colleague. I guess he saw it.
Although a lot of people have questions about climate change, I do, I don’t deny that humans are affecting the climate of this planet in a dramatic way. This other guy does. He even said, and I’m going to paraphrase because I can’t recall his exact words, but it went something like this:
“There’s nothing humans can do to this planet to damage it. Nuclear bombs, pollution…the earth will repair itself.”
Maybe that’s true. In the meantime though, humans will be gone and we’ll never know.
