Once upon a time, there was this Supreme Court Ruling that ruled that corporations were peope and that these same corporations could donate to and support candidates for political office, without there being a limit to what was spent. This decision is known as Citizens United and has become a touchstone for anyone wanting campaign finance reform which would probably exclude these corporations. Mainly, it has been democrats complaining about the decision because from their perspective, these same corporations mostly supported Republican candidates when in actuality these groups with seeming unlimited money are on both sides. Note the 2020 election, where Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg reportedly spent some $500 million to help get Joe Biden elected. Hear any democrats complain about that? Me either.
