I’ve seriously had that response from some people. Simply because I’m an atheist. How someone that doesn’t know me at all and then claim to be a member of a religion that loves everyone, will then condemn me, simply because I refuse to recognize their specific god. How many do you recognize? Certainly you understand that there are more people on this planet that do not believe what you believe than those that do believe. Right?

I saw something on Twitter recently that caught my attention. It’s nothing I haven’t seen before, just that seeing it again is a little surprising. It makes me wonder about atheists in general who are supposed to be smart people. Not any smarter than the general population, and in this case, maybe less smart than those same people inn the general population. What does someone’s politics have to do with being an atheist? I’ve written about this in the distant past, but seeing it brought up again just made me want to shout that outloud.

One of my favorite sites to visit, and I visit it a lot, is Instapundit. Why? It’s an aggregation site and is of course conservative/libertarian (or maybe libertarian/conservative – does it make a difference?) . A host of contributors scour the Internet to discover stories we conservative types may be interested in reading – sometimes it’s something not published or mainstream media. So, I always find some interesting stories there, some are well known, but may have a different take than what would be expected from even a mainstream conservative site.

Does it matter what we refer to ourselves as with one another? Believer, non-believer, atheist, theist or agnostic? does anyone really care about these labels outside our own social group? I sometimes think it doesn’t matter. Do I choose my friends based on any of those labels? No. I do think there are people that will choose their social circle based on the shallowness of some label. That’s fine for them. Please stay away from me.

I don’t know why I continue to be astonished what I hear on television when it comes to religion or religious belief. Of course there are some channels that come across as anti-religion to a degree and then there’s one that at one time, I called The Believers Channel because their anchors expressed their faith in what was supposed to be news shows, unabashedly. Of course the same goes with. other channels that would mock religious belief, in what was supposed to be a news program.
