The controversial movie, directed by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey is out today and I’m wondering, sitting here, if its worth three hours of my time to sit in a dark, dank theater to see (not to mention how much it costs to go to the movies nowadays) when I’ve heard nothing but negative critiques of the film. Those criticisms haven’t come from what I’d call professional film critics, those that work for TV or newspapers (the remaining ones in existence) but people online that have followed the making and marketing of the movie. If what I see on YouTube alone is any barometer, then it doesn’t look good for the claimed epic. I’m not one to rush out when a film first hits the theaters anyway. I’m old enough to remember Star Wars in 1977. Those lines went around the block (no joke) and when I went to see the movie months later, the line was still long for the Sunday night, 9 pm showing. that movie was a real waste of time and money. so, I’ll wait a week or two and see of there are any positive reviews by people not being paid by the studio. Plus, I think I want to see how this blockbuster, epic retelling of Homer has done as far as filling seats over the weekend.
