Facing Facts

A question I’ve had recently is is the U.S. is looking for a direct conflict with Russia over Ukraine. We just saw our President, declare without any hesitation, that the U.S. would be with Ukraine…until the end. That end, in President Biden’s mind is the destruction of the greater Russian Army, which seems to be going on apace in Ukraine, along with the slow, agonizing, decimation of the “Ukrainian Patriots”. Let’s just say what the hawks in our government, on both sides of the aisle won’t say, by the way. There are no good guys in this conflict.

Atheists Are Just Easy Targets

Just the other day, I mentioned here how atheists are still some of the most hated of all humans. Well, I didn’t say that exactly, but that’s essentially what I meant and it’s apparent from what we read and hear through the media that it’s true. The problem I have is that I cannot figure out why we’re viewed so harshly. What did I do to make you, America, hate me so much? As far as I can determine, we have one difference, large though it may be, but still, just one: I don’t believe in gods. You do. Or at least you claim you do. Sometimes, actions speak louder than words.

The Ukrainian Web

I admit I was wrong on Ukraine. If anyone desires to return to the arcives of this site and look at my view of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, I was clearly on the side of Ukraine. Why? When someone invades your territory, yes, even your home with your family present, you are more willing to fight to the last breath than to give up and watch your country 9family) raped and killed. I also thought the timeline would be short because the Russians, on the ground had no taste for this intervention. I still believe this to be true.

Back in the Atheist Closet?

No matter how well an argument is put forth, how well the evidence is presented, there are those that will not be convinced. I don’t go around evangelizing atheism. In fact, other than these pages, the subject rarely arises among family or friends. When it does, I am the one-against-many in the room in that no matter the social habits of some of the others, being a non-believer is always worse than anything else anyone can imagine. Remember that poll some years back that placed rapists as more trustworthy than atheists?

Euphemistically Speaking

I was recently recalling a story about a friend o mine, from Chile. He is a well educated and very personable. At the time we began to become friendly, he had only lived in our country about three years and although his english was excellent, he described how difficult it was for him to ubferstand the various ways we expressed ourselves. For him, english was a mish-mash of words and phrases thar had kittle or nothing to do with whatever the subject was being discussed. One example he gave, he had read in the newspaper that some important person had passed away. It took him a couple of moments to realize the author was referring to the persons death.
