I’ve always been told that when you’ve lost the argument, it’s better to shut up and sit down.
I haven’t been paying that much attention to GamerGate recently, in fact, I’ve been trying to ignore the whole controversy recently, but it won’t go away. I wonder why it won’t?
It seems to me that there is such a huge blow-back from the gaming community over being referred to as sexists and misogynists and the fact that those very same gaming periodicals that began this ridiculous contention that gamers are mostly male, white, and anti-woman would finally shut up and let it blow over refuse to recognize that they’ve lost.
These same “gaming journals” seem to be losing support (read: Advertisers) on a weekly basis. What then is holding up their argument and giving those voices credibility?
Welcome to the Main Stream Media (MSM); those known, at least in my circle as the Liberal Press. How often in the past few years have that very same media supported the idea of a conservative “War on Women”?
They’ve mostly failed as women are beginning to come around to the fact that the actual “War on Women”, is entirely fabricated by those liberals that will do anything to promote a certain ideology.
So there are major publications around the world as well as some so-called cable news channels that have grabbed the GamerGate story only to show their bias. Can’t show that conservatives as a group are oppressing women? Well, it must be these evil gamers. There must be a problem because there are half a dozen women that claim it’s true!
Notice that the corporate (evil corporate?) oligarchs are making their voices heard as well. They’ve pulled support from these publications and some would ask why. It’s pretty simple; They know who buys their products and it’s not The New York Times, The Guardian, or MSNBC. It’ you, and to a lesser extent, me as well.
When there are hundreds of thousands (millions?) of everyday gamers (read: consumers) out there that object to what is being written and broadcast about them as a a group, what is in their best interest?
Of course the con artists will always be around – you know of whom I refer – and until the media themselves come to that realization, this argument will not die.
GamerGate is nothing more than a few radical feminists trying to fix a problem where none exist. They’ve tried, and are failing the same in the atheist world.
Addressing a problem where none exists, makes one look the fool and nothing else. Let’s make sure the world understands that fact.

I don’t think you have an accurate and/or complete understanding of this issue. You say yourself you’ve not been paying much attention to it. So what makes you think you know the issue well enough to write this commentary? I’ve read much of what has been written about it, including the original idiotic rant by the hurt boyfriend that initiated the whole thing. What you’ve written here just does not accurately reflect what has been going one. Since the start of the Gamergate hashtag, there has been a considerable amount of sexist, incredible ugly, and even misogynistic words written by some in the gaming world. We can argue over how large a problem it is, but the problem is there.

Gamergate is nothing more than a few professional victims parroting radfem dogma to gain attention. They picked gaming, like they picked atheist activism, because it was a small, insular, easily digestible target.
They chose to sow ‘war on women’ memes because the MSM has already ploughed & fertilized the field with stories about: * non-existent gender wage gap; * inflated rape stats; * suppressing accurate female-perp DV stats; * bogeyman scares about danger to abortion rights (US).
Eventually, these professional victims, like Quinn, Sarkeesian & Watson, overplay their hand. That’s because they’re emotionally unstable & driven by unquenchable needs for attention & approval. And so they must keep moving, to predate on a new, unsuspecting group.
B.S. detectors need to be re-calibrated to reject their con games earlier.

This comment set off my BS detector. I think you have been cherry-picking what you read about this and are almost certainly a victim of confirmation bias.

A “bogey” = any perceived threat or dread. For decades now, the Left has relied on fear: ‘elect a Democrat — any Democrat — to the White House, else conservatives will be appointed to the Supreme court and overturn Roe v. Wade!!!’
Well, the court has had a conservative majority for how long now? and Roe v. Wade is still there. It is not in any danger.
But I’m glad you concede that the gender wage gap & ‘rape culture’ propaganda are lies.

it is questionable, Matt, that the court has had a conservative majority. There are definitely four conservatives on the court. Kennedy is not exactly conservative nor liberal. He has sided with the liberals on some issues and with the conservatives on others. However, the assault on abortion to which I referred is what has been happening in the states themselves. Considerable restrictions have been placed on access to abortions. Laws have been adopted that have led to the closing of clinics where women can get abortions. This is not a bogeyman. The electorate’s swing toward the Republican Party places reproductive rights in danger. I have not doubt that the current Republican Party would not hesitate to end a woman’s right to choose an abortion given sufficient political power and muscle.
To return to the issue of the Supreme Court. The next appointment to the court may well produce a definitive shift in the court. Should a Republican be elected in 2016 there is a very good chance that a conservative will be appointed to the court, producing an actual majority. Such a change in the court would definitely put abortion rights in peril.
I don’t concede that the gender wage gap and rape culture are lies. I think the “rape culture’ label is an exaggeration. But contained in that exaggeration is a truth. Women are at far greater risk of sexual assault than are men. As for the gender wage gap issue, I am convinced that there is one.

I don’t think you actually know the correct definition of a troll. My frequent disagreements with things said here does not make me a troll. My comments are always on point and address something said in the original post.
There is something seriously wrong with your thinking faculties if you think that my comments reflect the personality of a person who hates. I don’t hate anyone. I have strong dislikes for some people in this world. But that does not include anyone at this site, despite my obvious strong disagreement with a lot of what is written here.
I take it from the argumentative comment that you are looking only for those who agree with you? Is an echo chamber all you are interested in? I am no more argumentative than anyone else here.

Numerous academic and government studies have found that, after considering all factors, such as hours worked, industry, experience, non-salary compensation, personal choices, etc., only a 1-2% gender wage gap remains unexplained. Not due to sexism, unexplained. In many fields, young women are making up 120% what young men of the same qualifications are making.
You believe there’s a gender wage gap issue, because it fits your a priori dogma.

Do you condone exaggerating the risk of rape by a factor of 2 or more? Do you condone portraying all men as potential rapists, ‘trained’ by culture to rape, when orgs like RAINN report that nearly all campus assaults are committed by <3% of the male student population? The current Democratic administration has already taken away my right to writ of habeas corpus (Art I, sec 9), right to free assembly (Amd. I), rights to due process, speedy trial, and to face my accusers (Amd. V & VI) and protection from warrentless search & seizure (Amd. IV). Based on anonymous accusations alone, your Democratic president assassinates US citizens! And you’re telling me to support that party, just to protect abortion rights from a potential Gop threat? Get some fucking perspective.
