it seems I can’t go a day without hearing about some study, something some physical or social scientist has discovered that we all need to hear about. Our lives will be so much more shaded that we are not impressed, the \n humbled by this work that shall not be disrespected. I often wonder what generates these studies, hw these individuals or teams receive funding to perform them. How did they hoodwink someone into laying out some hard earned money, or better yet, taxpayer monies, to come to profound conclusions that either don’t affect anyone directly or no one really cares about.
How does the news pick and choose what to announce of these studies. I’m sure they come out all the time, publishes in their various journals of higher learning. he subject, of course, but what specifically but that makes it more important than any other? Did someone cure all cancers? Were humans able to sustain a fusion reaction indefinitely? No, why was discovered, in this case, is that married people were 30 percent happier than non-married. I kind you not. I haven’t seen the study to know how they so carefully calculated their conclusion, but let’s agree that with the data they collected, they were able to do so. Let’s also say that the funding, or at least part of the funding, came from grant of some foundation that promoted marriage.
Look, they might say, we’ve been right about marriage all long! And they might be right, according to their own study. How many other studies agree with them? Are there any other studies that touch upon this topic? If not, then all we have is a single study, possibly funded by a self interested group, which concludes what that group wants us to believe. Sound familiar?
And why is it always a study? Why not recent studies? Especially if there’s more evidence that confirms the current conclusion. If there’s not, then this is just s one-off study, isn’t it? It doesn’t really say anything that is conclusive because no one else had bothered to publish anything on the topic or if they have, no one in the media cared enough to do the little amount of research (footnotes, bibliography, Internet) that confirm or not the conclusion that’s been proposed.
