Does anyone else but me find it funny, or at least interesting that there’s a battle going on right now between…Christians? That’s right, it’s the Christian Zionists against the non-Zionist Christians. Why is this? There is a strain within the country, if you haven’t noticed, that believe we’re in this action with Iran due mainly to the influence of the Israeli government. That’s right, the Israeli government convinced President Trump and his inner circle (some very smart people) that the threat from Iran was imminent. Now the conversation has devolved into what is the meaning of imminent? And why is this a fight between Christians?
The military, in combat zones, define what a threat level is to their members, Alpha through Delta, with Alpha being the lowest to Delta meaning we’re under attack. I never understood Delta because, wouldn’t we know that we’re under attack? No one could ever answer that to my satisfaction. So Charlie, then, would signify the attack was imminent – be prepared because we’re about to get hit. Not in the next few days, but today, even momentarily. Sometimes the intelligence was good, other times, well, let’s just call it a fire drill. Still, it’s better to take a precaution than not. If you’ve ever been in a mortar or rocket attack, sometimes both, you ‘re glad to be carrying that extra weight of protection.
I know, none of this answers why there is a division between Christians. It’s simple. The Zionists are mostly end times dispensationalists that believe the recreation of the state of Israel in 1948 was the first step in the countdown to the return of Jesus as predicted in Ezekiel ( 36:24, 37:21) and by Jesus in Matthew (24:32). Of course, the non-Zionist Christians take exception to the interpretations forced upon some bible verses. For instance, the death and resurrection of Jesus points to the end of the old covenant with Israel and establishes the church, under Jesus, as the new Israel and the gathering would be of those that are believers.
So how long after 1948 and what does Israel need to consist of in order for the prophecy to be made whole? If we believe the bible, the Old Testament sets out the land, given to the Hebrews, by god being from the Nile river to the Euphrates river(Genesis 15:18). That’s a lot more territory than is defined by the borders of Israel currently. Take a look at a map. With the “enemies” of Israel being eliminated by the United States (Iraq, now Iran) or made impotent (Syria, Jordan, Egypt), the path to the “historic” land of Israel is ultimately achievable, especially with U.S. support. There’s been no better ally for Israel than the U.S.
So the dispensationalists have been waiting since 1948 for the appearance of their savior, but according to their own book, they may have to wait a while longer. How will the U.S. justify the annexation of Jordan by Israel? How many more conflicts will we be involved in before either the non-biblical prophecy occurs, or people just decide that, well, maybe they’ve been reading their text incorrectly all this time? Is a winner eminent in any sense of the word?
Probably not, but as an atheist, it’s fun to watch the verbal bloodbath online.
