Believe? Believe What?

Something that has always bothered me about religion (name your poison), are the almost infinite interpretations of the holy scriptures attended and how different groups of believers choose to dissect the exact same text. Within, Christianity alone, there are multiple sets of beliefs, all based on “the bible”. For instance, one major sect, venerates certain dead people as having influence in heaven and by praying to them, there might be a resolution to whatever their interlocutory concerned.

Is Atheism Irrelevant?

It doesn’t seem that long ago, at least to me, when atheism was in the news and controversial, at least in some people’s eyes. Today, it appears to have completely vanished from the social conversation completely. Is that for the good or not? Does it really matter that atheism remain in the spotlight and contentious with mainstream society? Well, aren’t we, atheists, part of mainstream society? If not, how not?

I’ll Show You Mine, if…

Do I have a target on my forehead? I am always coming into contact with people that want to relay the truth about something or other to me. Not the truth, but that person’s version of truth. What they refer to as my truth. What the heck does that even mean? Is it possible for every person to have their own truth about any and everything? What happens when that “truth” is shown to be nothing more than wishful thinking built upon faulty facts?

Living With Religion

I don’t despise believers, of any faith. Nor do I turn their sincere belief into some joke or pun. The reason, as many of you already know, is because I, too, was once a believer and struggled with that belief for a long time before I finally stopped wrestling with the idea of belief and realized that I could no longer believe. Atheism, as I have written before, was not a choice, but a conclusion.
