Do Atheists Require ‘Support Groups’?

I receive emails, sometimes, from a local atheist group asking me to attend the next meeting. I used to attend, never regularly, but when I had time. It’s nice to be around people that are likeminded in at least one way. I stopped attending altogether when i realized that that was all these people got together for: a feel good session about being an atheist, It was a coffee klatch and that’s all it was ever intended to be I guess. I hoped for a little more, maybe a venture into some activism, but no, that was never a reason for the gathering. That’s okay; I understand it may be emotionally beneficial to be around like persons. For me, I’ve never required that because atheism was personal for me, and not something I needed a group for support.
