What Do Atheists Believe In?

Everyone believes in somethind. Everyone. Yes, even atheists. Atheists may not belive in gods of any sort, bqut qnext timr you’re around an atheist, ask that person what they do believe in. Then, ask a religious person, say, a Christian what he or she believes in minus their religious belief. I’m going to try this soon and I wonder how each would sync with the other. I think the answers should be specific, so that I believe in humanity is an answer that should be laughed out of the room.

What will some ansers be? It’s hard to tell because imost people have never been asked that question seriously. For instance, I believe in science in that by understanding our existence thtough science, we humans have a better chance of surviving the obstacles placed in our way by nature. I might use hurricanes as a specific example of how science has benefitted HUMANKIND. someone else may use vaccines and how much longrt we are surviving today than just 100 years ago.

Science is an easy one to use because there are so many concrete examples of how science has benefitted humans over time. What about something more subjective, ephemeral? Like love? How would you describe it in your own life? Can you actually believe in something like love or any emotion?

What else do people say they belive in that could be asked of any atheist as well.? Again, I think we’ll find few if any differences .

  1. I believe in lots of different things. It’s just that religion isn’t one of them.
I don’t believe that a God exists so I don’t believe that God condones anything. Especially when the Bible gives instructions for the correct way to own slaves.

I believe in the pursuit of truth, not the presumption of it.

I believe in following the evidence, not leading it to a comfortable conclusion.

I BELIEVE IT’S MORE HONEST TO ADMIT YOU DON’T KNOW SOMETHING INSTEAD OF PRETENDING YOU DO WHEN YOU DON’T

I believe there is no designated path, no outline, no schedule, no rulebook for how you’re supposed to do life.

I believe it’s OK to figure things out on your own timeline. It’s OK to not even know what that timeline is yet.

I believe that life isn’t a race or a checklist.

I believe we are all human. Be kind.

I believe that what is good for the world is equality and not rejecting or treating other human beings differently based on things that are irrelevant generally to how you should treat people.

And I believe in Freedom. And lots of it.
