Just Say No (to War)

The United States is assembling the greatest armada of modern warfare in or near the Persian Gulf. The reason for this, is to attempt to have Iran negotiate honestly with the U.S. on several issues or, suffer the consequences. Depending on who you listen to or read, there are people on both sides of this possible step to a war. I’m concerned more at the politicians in Washington that, when asked about the possibility of some sort of strike on Iran, grin at the possiblity.

To me, that’s disheartening to view. Anyone that has that attitude about a possible war is someone, I don’t care which party you represent, I don’t want representing me. Or my country. Weren’t we told that we either completely destroyed or severely set back, Irans ability to construct a nuclear weapon? Wasn’t that the really worry around the middle east? The worlds largest exporter of terrorism would have the ultimate weapon to use against its enemies? Now it’s what, ballistic missiles? But they are unable to launch a nuclear tipped missile, aren’t they? And even though convential weapons can be devastating, is this really a reason to threaten war? The Trump administration also wants Iran to end it’s support for terrorist groups like Hamas (in the former Gaza Strip) and Hezbollah (in Lebanon) as well as those in Yemen and Sudan. I wonder who added those to the list? Can we think of anyone who would benefit immediately from this last demand?

Are we going to go to war, again, at the behest of Israel? I say again because the entire premise for the war in Iraq was based on infallible Israeli intelligence concerning Saddam Hussein’s Weapons of Mass Destruction and his ability to deliver them at least regionally(Israel?) if not further. At one point, we had over 130,000 troops in that country, and other than removing Saddam and his Baathist’s from power, what did we accomplish? Today, we still have some 2,500 troops in Iraq. Including Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, etc. the U.S. has some 35,000 troops on the ground right now, excluding all the naval assets currently offshore.

We have around 85,000 troops each in Europe and Asia. No wars(as far as I am aware) on the horizon. As the days progress, it’s looking more and more like something will be happening with Iran. It may be something tactical, but I expect whatever attack to be more strategic. The bloodthirsty Friends of Israel want to make sure that Israel remain the only power on the middle east. What are the implications of that happening? I know, I’m asking a lot of questions here but then, what else do I, or anyone else, have at this time? When you’ve become desensitized to a situation, there’s nothing left but questions and when those go unanswered, which they will, mostly, we’ll be forced to take what our representatives give us (a brick upside the head).
