I’ve listened to the post-election analysis for two days now, most of it decent, and here is what it keeps walking around. The Republicans didn’t lose because of a bad ground game or a messaging problem. They lost because the president started a war.
He lied about it in 2024. He ran on his first term — the only president, he said, who never started a war — and on the promise that he wasn’t going to do it again. Then he did it. And he didn’t do it to save American soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan or anywhere else. He did it for another country. For Israel. Not because anybody has something on him — I don’t believe that, and I’m not going to print it. He did it because Netanyahu is his friend, and his friend talked him into a massive bombing campaign that started on February 28th.
People keep saying it was the economy. Fine. What did the economy in this year? Follow the chain. You bomb Iran, and Iran is a major oil exporter sitting in the middle of everything that moves in and out of the Middle East. Oil prices climb. Gas prices climb at the pump. Diesel climbs for the trucks that haul the goods around this country, and so the prices climb at the grocery store, at Target, at Walmart, everywhere — because one man started a war that did not need to be started. He caused his own loss. He built it himself.
I’m not saying the Republicans would have held everything without the war. Maybe they lose one house anyway. But they didn’t lose one house. They lost everything, and in the Senate they got blown out. That was supposed to be the chamber they kept. It’s 54 Democratic seats with the count still running, and it could be 56 to 44 when Alaska and Mississippi finish. Look at that change and tell me it was about messaging.
And the voters themselves have filed their verdict on this argument. The exit polling — the SSRS Voter Poll the networks and the Associated Press run together — found that 74 percent of voters said the war with Iran was a crucial or major factor in how they voted. For months, the war was waved off as no big deal to most people. Seventy-four percent says otherwise, and 62 percent of those voters voted Democratic.
And the reason given for the war doesn’t survive ten seconds of thought. Iran didn’t attack us. Yes, Iran has been our enemy for 47 years — and in 47 years it hasn’t attacked us. We’re told it was about the nuclear weapon. North Korea has nuclear weapons. They haven’t attacked us. China has them. Russia has them. None of them are our friends, and none of them have attacked us. And in any case, the president himself told us last year, after the 2025 bombing of their nuclear sites, that the program was obliterated — his word, obliterated. If it was obliterated then, what exactly were we bombing in February?
Stupid begets stupid. You reap what you sow, and when you sow the wind, you reap the whirlwind. He got his on November 3rd.
That’s my say on the midterms, and it’s the last of it. I’m sick of the subject and I’m done with it here — the gavels change hands in January and that will be its own story when it happens. This is the whole of mine.
