Another day, another post on free speech. I’ve been noticing lately how there have been some conservatives desiring some sort of regulation on Big Tech. By that, specifically Facebook and Twitter, possibly Google as well. Is this a good idea? There may be a case for some sort of regulation, but I’m in the camp of no.
I thought i would weigh in on Alex Jones being de-platformed. Although I was never a fan of his, and considered him mostly someone to laugh at when I did happen to see something he said or wrote, he had a huge following. Its coming to the point now that someone being a personality on the Internet isn’t safe anymore from being physically attacked. I’m referring to, of course to Jeremy Hambly, aka “The Quartering” who was viciously attacked in a bar while attending Gen Con, a conference on gaming.
I’ve been thinking about expanding my Internet presence. The idea is to be able to use other forms of social media to have more views here. Several years ago, I had a Google+ account and it may have helped to attract a few more viewers. I also, for a short time, had a paper.li account. Although I can’t be certain if that did anything for readership here, its another vehicle.
There have been numerous stories lately concerning how people use social media and the amount of time spent, as well as how much personal information is placed on these platforms. The one most discussed is of course Facebook, which is expected to have 1.34 billion active users by the end of this year.
