Recently, on The Joe Rogan Experience (podcast) he again had Jack Dorsey, Twitter CEO along with Tim Pool, and independent journalist joined by Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s top layer and also in charge of Trust and Safety to discuss what appears to some as a left-wing bias at Twitter towards conservatives on the platform. The podcast itself was terrific, and very long, but if anyone hasn’t had the opportunity to listen to it, it’s well worth. the investment of time.
As a conservative, I follow and am followed by, other conservatives on social media, specifically Twitter. I do also follow some liberals and progressives, but the overwhelming majority I think (I’ve never actually counted) are conservative. I try not to follow those I consider the crazies from either side but sometimes until I see a few tweets from someone, I have no idea of their specific political opinions. It’s wide ranging, again on both sides of the spectrum from the reasonable (who I prefer) to the downright conspiracy theorists. there seem to be a lot more lately of the later than the former.
I’ve been thinking for a while about how we, as atheists interact on social media, mostly Twitter. There are some really great, exceptionally intelligent people out there that, to be honest, I find by accident. By that I mean I see them in a conversation of someone I currently follow. I look at their profile, and a sample of their tweets as well, and then decide whether I want to follow that person or not.
Is it important for users on Twitter to be able to see the number of followers they have? Last week, in an interview, Jack Dorsey, founder and CEO, saus people shouldn’t obsess over the number of followers they have and that instead should be seeking meaningful conversations. Is he right?
Well, I think that if Twitter actually considers this, they may lose a lot of users.
