  1. The only problem with this is that it comes across as hypocritical, since American conservatives operate the same way, except that they use a different set of positive sounding but ultimately meaningless phrases.

  2. Our conservatives play the religious angle heavily which has, well, the holier than thou structure baked right in.

They’re all alpha sociopaths, though, playing to the Red or Blue side of the tide. The Democrats just got obsessed with some little tide pools no one really cares about in the last campaign.

People thinks it’s the political elite that are extreme, but surveys shows its really the electorate, and the power elite know thus. There’s an illusion of moderation because the surveys average out to that, but if you look at the details they’re really bimodal distributions at the two extremes on any issue.

    • I’ll only disagree with your first point which seems to assume that all conservatives are religious. Not that they are all atheists, but there’s plenty of conservatives you never hear from that reject the “take over” of the conservative brand by the religious nuts. Quoting one the the great conservatives of the 20th century, Barry Goldwater:

“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they’re sure trying to do so, it’s going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can’t and won’t compromise. I know, I’ve tried to deal with them.”

  3. Yeah, I didn’t mean to imply all were, just a lot of the uber alphas you see in the news. We need more like Goldwater, who built Heathkits and has a science scholarship in his name.

What’s funny is that even Nixon knew mixing politics and religion was bad. He was good friends with Billy Graham, but several biographers have noted Nixon’s concern that it would be taken the wrong way by the public.

    • There is media bias on both sides. I saw a tweet yesterday from someone that embedded a chart from Pew Research on left-right bias in the news on a scale from 1-10. I wish I could find it now but I’m not going to search through my timeline right now. If I could recall who tweeted it, it’d be easier, but I cannot recall.

I remember when the Christian Coalition was formed. I was aghast! At that point I knew Goldwater’s words were going to come true. Sure enough.

  4. What exactly do you find funny about this? Isn’t this the kind of nonsubstantive polemic we all should be avoiding, regardless of political persuasion. The entire video was one strawman after another. It certainly does not promote constructive dialogue. My impression of the video was it was just a gentler version of the crap that Ann Coulter spews, especially the idiocy that made up much of her book, How To Talk to A Liberal.
