Time to Rethink Atheism?

Why does atheism attract more people of the political left (far, far, left, in many instances) rather than conservatives. As a conservative, I know few atheists that will identify as politically conservative. What is it about atheism that conservatives distrust? Is it just the non-belief in god(s)? Does that somehow translate to morality?

Do atheists commit the worst crimes in America? Are atheists all about no consequences for bad behavior? To the last question, of course not. It’s just that atheists generally believe that the punishment for crimes are limited to this world, not some city in the clouds. And yes, there are still a lot of atheists that remain in the closet today because of their fear of being stigmatized at work, friends, even family members.

That’s too bad that a better educated people today (better than earlier generations) can still believe that atheists are untrustworthy and would give all their money to some televangelist grifter rather than support the needy in their own community (I’ve seen it, personally). It’s too bad because the $152 billion dollars given to churches every year could really do some good. Americans are very charitable though and that is only 23% of the $617 billion given to charity overall in 2025.

I’ve been saying for years, and I still believe that people hold onto their belief in god(s) for their own ego. They just an’t stand the thought that this life is all we get. There’s no heaven or hell or anything else. You can still be loving and moral without having a stick of damnation hanging over you.
