So I just heard -for the umpteenth time – that our rights, at least as Americans, come from God. I’ve always found anyone stating anything similar to that as being curious and have wondered – aloud in many cases – where that thought comes from. It certainly doesn’t come from our Constitution, which doesn’t mention God, or Creator, or Deity, or whatever other appellation anyone wants to use, ever. So how is it that some God gives us the rights that we so cherish? It comes from the same people that believe, and often say, that being a conservative means, by default, a belief in God.

Do Our Rights Come From God?
Something that has always bothered me, even when I was a Christian, is the idea that our rights are “God given”. No, it’s not your government that determines your rights as a person, but “God”. If that’s true, why are rights of people so different in the various countries around the world?
Can the State Compel Speech?
As usual, I had at least two different topics I was trying to choose between to write about today, but sometimes something else pops up on my radar and I am compelled to comment on it or else lose the momentum of the story entirely.
Is the Current Supreme Court a Threat to Democracy?
I just can’t seem to get away from it. I’ve mostly stopped watching any news on television, but still, here on the Internet, it persists. It’s all the shrieking about the aceedence of the 5th conservative justice to the Supreme Court. It’s time to get over it; It’s done.
Grouchy Atheists?
As I’ve written before, I’m not a huge fan of the FFRF, mainly because it seems to have become a political organ more than an organization that fights to remove religion from public spaces. Just look at all of the hysteria they attempted to create over the latest SCOTUS nominee for which they actually provided no evidence.
