I’m Going Backwards, Technologically

I’ve been buying a lot of books lately. I mean physical books, on real paper. It’s not unusual for mr to buy books, but util the last year, Iv only bought electronic versions. they are a lot cheaper and fit nicely in a small space on my iPad. In fact, until a couple of months ago, I didn’t own a bookcase. Now I do. I began buying some very specific books on subjects that, well, were not so inexpensive in their electronic versions. for instance, a book I recently paid $13.95 for the physical copy, cost $12.95 for the electronic versions. If I’m paying that much, I want something I can hold.

Usually, these electronic books are a lot cheaper. It was unusual for me to pay more than $5.00 for an e-book, where the paper version might be 2 or 3 times that price. So, I have hundreds of books on my electronic bookshelf, with all kinds of fiction and non-fiction books. Lately though, many of the non-fiction books are outrageously priced as e-books. In fact, one recent puchase, the e-book version was more than a dollar more than the paperback (858 pages). I’m not kidding. Another recent purchase, the e-book was only 0.67 cents cheaper than the paper version. So, yes, I’m back to buying the actual paper version of the books I want to read.

Sure, I still search to see if the e-book version is out there for a dollor oe=r two, maybe three or four. But so far, the books I’ve been looking for, no the e-book prices re not much less, and at least in the one case above, more. I don’t mind having the physical books, but I’d rather have them all in one place because if I ever have to move, well, they’d all be on my iPad and I wouldn’t have to pack books in boxes. Like I will have to know but then, I’m not going to pay almost (or more!) the cost of a book for an e-book.

Cheap? Not really. Just a little frugal in this case.

I read quite a bit. I read books, have two magazine subscriptions (Popular Mechanics and Archeology) and read a lot of online content. I like reading. I enjoy fiction, history, science, even politics; Whatever I can put my hands on. It’s the way I was raised. My parents, neither of them college graduates, read constantly, even when the TV was on! As a child, of course I saw my parents doing that, and so I did it as well. My best memory as a child was not the day I received my drivers license, but when my Mother took me to the library to get a Library Card, in my name. I think I was six.
