Like most (all?) content creators, I like to look at my blog statistics, mainly to see how many views the site is receiving, but also other statistics, as in the posts that are attracting the most views, which indicates the categories as well, and also, where these views are coming from.

It’s really helpful in helping me decide what to post because, of course, anyone that does any type of content creation not only wants to attract new viewers, but also have people return. It keeping the customer happy. Of course, I write what I want to, but what the reader is looking at on a long term basis does influence the topics I choose to blog.

What I find really interesting is where these views are otiginating. Lately I’ve been surprised to discover that a lot of my views are coming from…China. That’s right. I woould have thought the majority would come from the U.S., and maybe even Europe, but no, recently, I’ve noticed that China has taken the lead. Now, are these real people viewing this site? Of course, with the tools I currently use, I have no way of determining a bot from a real person. Honestly, I don’t care that much. How many overall, no matter the geography, are real?

So I had to excavate these numbers a little more and see over the last month, six months, and year if China were indeed a major consumner(for me) of this site. Well, they’re up there, in second place to the U.S. but even that is somewhat surprising. I really thought I’d se some European countries in the top five. Or, South American. To the latter, none. I don’t mean to say I’ve never had views from Mexico, Central or South America: But they’re few and very far between. It is surprising to see to so many from China. As I write this, I have 26 views of this site (not unusual for the weekend), all from China (so far).

This makes me wonder if other content creators, even those that are podcasters, have the same or similar experience. I would think these are able to see, somehow, where their views originate. Maybe not.

Why do I care? I don’t really, I just find it curious. What is it that attracted these people to this site? I can somewhat tell from the categories of posts, but there have been a lot of blogs like this in the p ast and I think there are still several around that are larger(readership) than this site.
