De-Platforming is Bad on it’s Face

As most regular visitors here are aware, I am against de-platforming people on social media for any reason, with the exception of threatening violence against a person or a group. No matter how despicable or vile I might find someone’s opinion, They have a right, in my view to express it. As I’ve written on more than one occasion, we may surely agree on some people that need to be kicked off social media, but then what? Well, of course, these less controversial will be in the sights on certain people, who will complain to these platforms about what is being posted, and it becomes a regression where voices, just because we happen to disagree with their point of view on any subject, are forever silenced.

The Social Media Bar is Being Lowered

I’ve been writing quite a bit recently about social media and how it affects our daily lives. It is, as I wrote  recently, an addiction that we cannot seem to be able to control, if we even want to control it. It’s not just Twitter or Facebook either. It’s all forms of social media. I know people that brag about not watching television very often, if at all; These same people, however will spend as many as four hours daily, watching Youtube videos. Seriously, what’s the difference? Now it seems that the bar is being lowered, at least at YouTube for now, maybe. some of the others soon, as to what content is permissible on their platform.

Shouting At The Wall

Sometime ago,  I wrote about my spending too. much time on social media, specifically Twitter. I decided that I was not going to do that anymore, and for a little while, that worked. I would log in to see if there was anything there worthy of responding to, but that was about it. For a while. I then found several people that I follow that were much more interesting to pursue dialogue with and of course that killed my experiment.  Hypocrite.  Well, here I am again, doing the same thing, limiting my time online simply because it is an addiction of sorts, even when I become involved with interesting people. I’ve really discovered that I actually don’t have much to say, and what I do have to say probably isn’t of much interest to anyone but me.

Putting a Bully in Their Place

Bully Concept Watercolor Word Art

We’ve come to a point where words no longer have the effect they used to have. We often use the terms, Racist, Nazi, or White Supremacist , to refer to those that do not have the same political or social outlook we think they are supposed to have, but in the last decade or so, those words have been used so much to describe those we may dislike, that they have actually lost their real meaning. Just because someone happens to differ in their view with what someone considers mainstream, does not necessarily make them any of the above.

They’re Coming To Take You Away

Some things just never seem to end. It doesn’t matter the argument, how well it’s presented, how reasoned, there are people whose entire lives are agenda driven and they will have nothing to do with that pesky reason thing. It’s almost become a religion, yet those that practice would never admit that what they say or do is anything but a form of rationality even though anyone may point out the same with any religious belief. That’s the way online mobbing works. A few people ( as few as a single person) criticize someone else, not actually ptoviding any actual evidence, just that they disapprove of whatever this person may have said, or wrote, and the entire woke universe believes it has to chime in, because, no one would actually make something up about another, would they?
