Ideology Doesn’t Define a Skeptic

I often wonder why political ideology is important when it comes to defining whether a person is a skeptic or not.

Let’s take the latest post I had on this with the subject being Edwina Rogers. Now, I have no idea if she’s a liberal or a conservative, but she has in the past worked for Republicans. Why is that important as to why she should get a job or not?
Is she a skeptic? It appears so as she heads the SCA and now is president of the Richard Dawkins Foundation. Why does it matter what her political ideology is (if any) to her doing work for the secular/skeptic community?
Actually, it means nothing and people need to stop pigeon-holing others for their presumed political ideology. If I did that, I wouldn’t have many conversations or friendships because from my point of view, most of you view yourselves as liberal or progressive. That doesn’t stop us from discussing important issues within the community or in the world at large. In fact, I really believe that there are some out there that read this blog or follow me on Twitter that can’t believe I’m one of those evil conservatives.
I don’t let any ideology drive my skepticism. Neither should you. If you are really intent on being a skeptic and trying to move skepticism forward as more mainstream, you should look at all sides of an issue and not believe what one side or the other says about it. It doesn’t matter if you’re liberal or conservative because each side has their selected talking points and the only way to get to the truth is to put everything you hear or read under the microscope of skepticism.
We should be making judgments about others (if we should be doing that at all) based on their actions, whether online or in real life, and not on how they identify ideologically.
This is pretty simple for me. I hope it is for you as well.

  1. I’ve been browsing on-line greater than three hours these days, but I never found any attention-grabbing article like yours.

It’s pretty worth sufficient for me. In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made good contwnt as you probably
did, the internet might be a lot more helpful than ever before.
