I read a great blog post today and the content made me stop and think.
James Lindsay, last week, wrote a response piece to something Greta Christina had written.
Suffice to say, that in my opinion, Lindsay took Gretas post apart; Carefully.
Here’s the bottom line of the post from my read: atheists are not a community. He defines very well what a community means. It means more than what most of us would intitally believe.
Just because we are all “non-believers”, doesn’t make us a community. I agree. I’ve used the word in several posts in the past and from now on, I won’t.
I’ve written before about atheism not being a movement, which Lindsay also addresses. He accomplished it much better than I.
I won’t be using the word “community” anymore. I only used it in the past because I didn’t know how to refer to those that espouse atheism. My bad. When you read the post, I think you’ll understand. If you don’t? Well, there’s nothing more I can add.
So please, go and read both posts, starting with Gretas and come back and tell me what you think.
I really wanted to write a lot more about this, and I may in the future, but just reading these two blogs should inform you quite a bit.
