NASA to Bump an Asteroid

NASA has a mission right now to deflect an asteroid’s path, The idea is that if there were a giant rock in space, headed for a possible collision with earth, we might be able to bump it’s orbit just enough to miss the planet. Of course that’s if we see the danger coming. There are a lot of rocks in our solar system and few telescopes able to provide any warning at all, much less months, which would be needed to be able to send a craft to crash into it and then calculate if there was enough drift so that the asteroid would pass us by harmlessly. We’ll know in a month if the test is successful. Hopefully it won’t be bumped the wrong way. As I always ask: What could go wrong?
