YouTube Can be Annoying

I think I’ve mentioned I’m a bit of a YouTube addict these days. I used to use it sparingly to look up DIY repairs and other tasks with which I thought I needed assistance. Good enough for that and that’s about all. Then a friend told me that there was a lot more than “fix it” videos out there and I began to peruse. My friend understated, I believe.

I found all kinds of subject I’m interested in persuing, and most of these videos are by people that actually know(or seem to) what they’re talking about. I’m a history buff and there’s what looks like an almost limitless number of videos on history from the beggingi g up to, well, now. All sorts od science amd religion(some really good podcasts on textual criticism) and on and on.

One thing annoys me though about YouTube i that it’s algorithm assumes if I watched couple of podcasts or shows on say, medieval hstory, that it fills up my “Recommended” videos with a lot of those. Recently, I became interested in the Carnivore diet, unsure as to what it reslly was about. Turns out it’s just a high protein, low to zero carbohydrate way of eating.

Guess what? The next 2 days, I couldn’t get away from these videos as they were plastered across my screen, I kept making the mistake of seeing g a thunbnail that looked interesting and playing it. So now, I’ve had to stop watching these entirely so;that I canhopefully begin seeing other recommendations. Lesson learned.

It is amazing how many videos are published there on that topic. Next was protein bars because a couple of people mentioned them in their carnivore videos. Again, flooded with more than a dozen videos just about “the best” protein bars for losing weight, etc. I knew the algorithm worked this way, I was just surprised how much under these 2 topics there was to watch.

There’s also some pretty interesting movies on YouTube that I haven’t seen streamed anywhere else. So, there’s some really good with the annoying. Now bak to my regular programming.
