Praise the Lord – and Pass the Potatoes

I think it’s interesting to see all of the online Christianity lately. It’s interesting in that it seems that wherever I turn, there’s somone claiming the mantle of Jesus, and informing the rest of us that we are heathens – or at least the tone of their posts seem that way. I don’t think this is the first time where people used some religious connection to make a name for themselves.

The issue I have is how some of the more vocal ones don’t appear to know anything about what they’re claiming and do not look like any type of Christian anyone would want to meet in a dark alley. Now, I’m not claiming all of these are displaying that ttitude, but the number is growing. There’s one person I see on X and has his own show on youTube that claims to be a Christian Ethicist. His behavior is far from anything I would describe as ethical if I used the loosest definition.

The problem, and this is from an atheist’s point of view, is that these people have converted to Christianity without performing the main act in accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior. It’s called Repentance. The word is used 56 times in the New Testament. In the book of Luke alone, the word is used 14 times. In Acts, 11. It’s important and it’s not something we hear much about today. Even in churches that still perform “calls” to faith, the word people use do not contain any form of repentance, it’s just an acceptance of Jesus as the Lord and Savior.

Repentance isn’t just about forgiveness of sins, but making an actual change in your life. At least that’s what it meant long ago when I was a Christian. Maybe Jesus has updated the New Testament ad I need to buy an updated copy because for all the online self importance being displayed, I can’t seem to find any that are what I would have ever referred to as believers. Because they really don’t.
