Have you noticed something different about this blog lately? You should have. I’ve changed it a lot.
Not the subjects — you’ll still find the same Bible, history, atheism, and skepticism here you’ve always found. What’s changed is the care taken with it. The posts are researched deeper than they used to be, and they look it: most of them now end with a short “Read more” section that tells you where the information came from and where to go if you want more of it. I’ve been at this blog for thirteen years, and I decided it ought to look like I mean it.
Here’s the shape of the place now. There are two posts a day, every day. The first goes up at 8:30 AM Arizona time — I call it the anchor. It’s the main topic: something I’ve been thinking about and researching for days, and sometimes it runs as a series across several days. The second goes up at 4:00 PM — a story of interest. History, art, a scientific finding, something human that caught my eye.
Around those two, there are slots that fill when there’s something to fill them with. 1:00 PM is breaking news — something big happening here or somewhere in the world, gotten out quickly but sourced as carefully as a deadline allows. 6:00 PM is what I call the Rest of the Story — a news item with the half that got left out put back in. And at 9:00 PM, now and then, a rant, when something has earned one.
And in the middle of all of it, there’s something new: a podcast. The first episode went up this past Wednesday, November 4th — the day after the midterms — and it’s sitting there waiting for you: Paul Dictated His Letters From a Prison Hole. A new episode lands every Wednesday at 2:00 PM Arizona time, on a new topic each week. It’s a short format on purpose. I’ll get in, make the point, and get out. Your day is your own, and I’m not going to spend two hours of it wandering around a subject that needed twenty minutes.
This post isn’t one of the regular two — it’s a one-off, just to put the changes in one place where you can see them. If you’re new here, welcome aboard. If you’ve been reading a while, thanks for noticing.
