For a while now I have not heard of atheists being discredited or defamed by the Christian news networks that pervade the U.S. That’s right, even those that lean left, can’t help but use god for their own purposes, forget about places like Fox News who should be renames to “The Jesus Network”. It’s god awful and I’m at the point where I can no longer turn to that channel for anything because it seems they seem (to me) to inject their religious beliefs into every story (okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but anyway).

I was watching some panel show on that names cable news channel, discussing the current issues in the Middle East and heard (I wasn’t watching) one guest say something like “It’s those atheists!”. I stopped what I was doing and looked toward the television but it was too late to get an idea of who said that and, of course, why.

I want to think that because interest in atheism seems to have declined in recent years, it’s become fashionable again to slander atheists, blaming us for all of the ills of the world. It can’t be that we actually stand for the freedoms for all people, not just those that are Christians. Yes, we actually believe in the Constitution and especially the Bill of Rights. No other country on the planet has a document like ours. But we’re the bad guys? What some of these people show is their complete ignorance of atheism. The same ignorance like they have for their own holy text. That’s right. I guarantee anyone reading this right now that atheists, in general, are more familiar with the Christian bible than most Christians.

I need to start paying attention because it doesn’t take much adverse publicity on these national channels for atheists to become the evil that is in this world when, all anyone has to do is look around and see who it is that’s bombing girl’s schools and civilian populations in general recently.
