I did the best I could to stay off of social media today, as well as not peruse any news today. Why? Well, in case you’ve been living in a cave, then you know it’s the anniversary of the assassination of a young conservative political operative, Charlie Kirk. I didn’t know that much about him, but for the pat year on social media and elsewhere, there’s been nothing but cry for justice. Okay, I get it. The authorities have someone in custody that is accused of the murder. Good for them. That hasn’t however, stopped the speculation over the last year about exactly what happened, and who was ultimately responsible.
Conspiracy theories abound. There are those on both sides of the argument of course. Some that say the right msn was caught. Others, however, saying that no, the person in custody is not the actual killer. Sound familiar? Well, maybe for we older folks. It’s the JFK assassination debate all over again. Believe it or not, people are still arguing, writing definitive books, and producing documentaries about an event that occurred 63 years ago (well, nearly). Luckily, I won’t be here in another 62 years so I’ll miss where this current debate winds up, if it ever goes anywhere at all.
But I expected to see a lot of blubbering about a person, online, that most of the people blubbering, never knew. And, taking a quick look this evening, I was right. I even replied to one on X, asking the person posting, if she knew Charlie personally. she replied that she didn’t, but loved what he stood for and watching him speak. i don’t think it’s too much hyperbole to say that over the past year, I’ve only hesrd people speak about Mr. Kirk with passion, especially those that loved him, for his work, his mission. Yes, as I’ve said before, I thought at one point some of these follower were going to try and deify him. If nothing else, make him a saint (I don’t think he was Catholic, but what’s a minor obstacle like that when we’re making a new Messiah?).
Maybe there should be a formal investigation into all of the conspiracies, not unlike the Warren Commission. Of course, all that did was spawn more theories. Hopefully, over the next year, especially after the actual trial of the accused person begins and more evidence comes out in public, the entire circus will fold its tents and move on to the next media-generated pseudo-event.
