What would happen this fall id no one turned out to vote? That includes mail-in (absentee) voting as well. Would that be a genuine Constitutional Crisis? I would say definitely, yes because our founders never posited the thought, anywhere I am able to look, for the possibility that people would be so fed up with government that they would just not show up to the polls every two years.

I’m not even considering a violent uprising – a revolution – as Thomas Jefferson suggested in 1787, “ Of courseThe tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.” Of course, he wasn’t referring to the American Revolution, but an uprising of farmers in Massachusetts (Shays’ Rebellion). Som instead of taking up arms, how about we just not vote for any of them? Think about it. The House of Representatives would not be able to meet because, well, there are no members. There last Congress’ term (two years) has expired. They can’t have offices, or get paid because, well, they don’t have a position.They could still meet, but not at the capitol. They would have no authority (by the people) do perform any function(for the people) because they were not selected to represent anyone(of the people).

Of course my suggestion is just a waking fantasy. For me. Think about it. If just a single person voted in the upcoming election, then we’d have, well, at least one member of the House and if where that person has a senator to elect, then one extra senator(for those not in the U.S., we elect senators every six years so approximately 1/3 are up for reelection every two years – this year it’s 35).

I think we all can agree that we need a change. Right now, in my opinion, we have a group of do-nothings in charge with a nagging-naysayer minority party, looking to take control of both houses of congress next year. If they win, and they may very well do so, look for at least of two years of misery. The first thing they’ll do in the house is vote to impeach Trump. How many will that make over two terms? Then, the senate will have to hold a trial avote for guilt or innocence, sixty-seven guilty votes being the magic number. That’s doubtful but its a waste of time for what we’re paying them. Or why they were elected. And medicare for all? Nope, that will probably pass the house by a party-line vote if the democrats are in control, but it will never get sixty votes in the senate (unless the democrats win some 13 or more seats) to even have a chance of becomong law(Trump would veto it.I hope.).

I don’t vote for “the party”. I know people that do and would never vote for a member of the opposition party. I think we need to stop with that schoolyard tactoics and vote for the person that mostly agrees with what voters want (I’ll take someone that is imperfect than an actual liar that onbly wants the power and couldn’t care less what the voters want). I hope we can do better this time around. I say that every twi years though. I’m disappointed every time.
