I’ve been really working on eating healthier the past few months. Why? Well, to lose/maintain weight mainly, but also I’ve discovered I feel better, even sleep better, because I’m concentrating on what I put in my body. That means, no more (well, never say never) alcphol, sweet and salty snacks? Gone. I’m focused on my protein intake as well as calories. My dad used to say the best exercise in the world was pushing away from the table. I think he was right.
So, in my quest to eat a lot better than I have been over the past [REDACTED] years, I’ve been doing some research online and that includes watching YouTube cooking (healthy) videos. I‘ve learned lot (at least what all these content creators think or believe) and of course, once I get past the commercials contained within (buying a specific product) I can actually discover some new, even tasty dinner to make. I don’t want to production, something easy, as few steps as possible and without any superlatives added. Just make the freaking dish and a) give me the exact ingredients used, then b) tell me the caloric, protein, carbohydrate load, etc. And it’s okay to show me extra ingredients I may want to add, but are not necessary.
I especially like the one dish meals. Now, of course, I’m not including a mixing bowl, or maybe two, but that the finished meal is in one cassarole dish, or serving bowl, or yes, my plate. And yes, I even understand that the cook is trying to do is to make the dish appear as appetizing as possible. So of course, at the end, and this happens a lot, they add – parsley.
Why do these people have to add a useless weed like that to what looks like a perfectly good dish? I looked up the benefits of parsley, and there are many, especially vitamin K. But that’s not the reason people add it as I discovered(actually, I already knew this, or thought I did, and my research just confirmed it). It’s used as a garnish, for color. Supposedly, adding what looks like grass clippings to a meal makes it more appetizing to those about to consume it.
So, dear cooking show content creators, stop wasting time and money on something that most people don’t care about as they place their dinner on the table each evening: how it looks (we can stick flowers in the casserole, would that help?).
