I think that most people are familiar with an incident that happened in Washington D.C., 2 evenings ago where DHS Secretary Kirstien Nielsen was effectively run out of a Mexican restaurant by a few protestors. The protest as about the current administration’s zero tolerance policy concerning illegals and the separation of children from their parents.
Separating children from parents who enter the country illegally is not new. It’s been going on for years under different administrations. It doesn’t make it right, it’s just a fact which we rarely hear reported.
Something I’ve seen on Twitter however disturbs me. There is this young woman who took part in the protest, Allison Hrabar, who works for the DOJ. There are people calling for her to be fired for her participation in the protest.
I don’t think I would support this effort. She certainly has a right to protest against a policy she dislikes. If I blame anyone, it’s the restaurant management for allowing this to occur in the first place. In fact, here’s a quote from the manager:
<img data-position="3" src="https://consskep.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/screenshot2018-06-21at11-49-44am.png" data-mce-src="ScreenShot2018-06-21at11.49.44AM.png"
If I were a patron of that restaurant, I’d probably not ever darken their door again. Why would they allow a disruption like that? It doesn’t just affect the person they were protesting but all customers. Management could have insisted the protestors leave the establishment. Once on a public sidewalk, they could do as they please.
But instead, they chose poorly in my opinion. I’ll actually be surprised if this incident doesn’t affect future business.
