I know I’m stating the obvious, but sometimes it just needs repeating: No one really cares what you say on the Internet. That’s right, your opinions are totally worthless because they are not in any way authoritative and no matter how much anyone repeats the same old thing, say after day, you only really convince yourself. You’re literally speaking to no one. It’s the same way no matter the medium, whether it’s like this, blogging, or video screeds about the latest political or cultural disaster. No one really cares. Nothing any of us say here affects anything in the long term. Or even the short. The universe is like that: unconcerned with our billions of exaggerated egos.
What’s great about this technology is that it does Gove us a chance to vent in any number of ways whether it’s to attempt to educate, be a comedian, or take some sort of stand on an issue that hasn’t penetrated anywhere far enough for most people to care. When I say most people, I’m referring to the majority of the people in the country, and around the world, that do not have an online presence and could care less about the petty nonsense that tends to erupt constantly. We tend to want to believe that the Internet is the Shot Heard Around the world but no, it barely makes a ripple in the lives of people here, and absolutely none for the remainder.
This is more like a playground where a crowd of kids pick sides to play a game. It’s important for some to be onboard the right side, you know, with the cool people. But who are those when we’re looking at one another virtually? In fact, in a school yard it’s much easier to pick sides because of being aware of each other’s abilities to play the game and those without any natural ability, which in the virtual world, unfortunately, comprise the majority and become, well, hangers-on.
People want to not only be sharp in their commentary, but also clever, with those that might agree with them smile and even acknowledge the wit utilized. Maybe it’s like a knife, but mostly it’s something that is completely ignored. Why? Because, as I already stated, no one really cares what anyone really thinks about anything. Weak minds are easily manipulated and there seems to be a lot of that going on, online. How much fun would this be if people would just stop and think for themselves. Sure, there’ll still be sides taken, but how many sides? In fact, maybe more people would be heard and there wouldn’t be any more dramas like what we see today.
Our mental health would be better, I believe, if we began trying to see the other side of a question, rather than digging in for the long term.
