Unlike many in the media and elsewhere, I do not cheer at someone’s death, even if that person is someone I disagree with politically and otherwise. So, upon learning of the sudden, unexpected[ected death of Senator Lindsay Graham, I fell quiet for a moment. According to the news it was a sudden, unexpected illness that struck him after returning from a trip to Ukraine.

I was angered to see on television, and read online, about many people that were happy to see him dead. Yes, they were his political enemies, but I would think that in a brief moment, even someone that was opposed to policies he championed might say something of comfort for his family. But no, not in these times. If there’s a chance to strike a blow, strike! Even f it’s against a dead man.

I was certainly against his hawkishness toward conflict with other nations, as well as his advocacy for ever more funding for already the most funded military on the planet (It’s going to $1.2 TRILLION). Of course, I used to kid that Graham was not camera shy and was always looking for a camera to talk about his favorite issue of the week. In fact, I found it unusual if I watched the news for an entire evening and he never appeared.

All those that came on TV over the weekend mentioned how nice a guy Graham was. What some on TV mentioned was how obvious none from the political opposition made any kind of statement whatsoever. It always comes back to the saying that if you can’t find something nice to say about someone, don’t say anything at all. I think the silence from Democrats spoke volumes. About them.
